Inside the Grand Designs hangar, which took ten years to build
GRAND Designs really opened our eyes to some incredible properties, and this Scottish residence is no exception.
Kevin McCloud has traveled the country in search of the best developments Britain has to offer, and visited the home of Colin MacKinnon and Marta Briongos a few years ago.
Built in Strathaven, the couple’s beautiful hangar took ten years to build.
Located in the middle of an airport, this is not your typical location for a home, but the view is perfect.
Completed in 2019, the beautiful property is sure to be a highlight for any aviation enthusiast.
It hasn’t been an easy ride for the couple, however, with the Grand Designs team really following their build since the very beginning.
The first episode featuring flight instructor Colin and flight expert Martha aired in 2011.
They explain how their future home will be built on Colin and his family’s land, including Strathaven Airport, the oldest runway in continuous use in Scotland.
They worked alongside Edinburgh architect Richard Murphy to create the dream home, and after ten long years they have completed a masterpiece.
With its curved metal roof and large circular glass balcony overlooking the front of the property, this is an outstanding residence.
Its interior is equally unique, with the couple choosing a variety of bold colors, from yellow walls to bright red furniture.
Back in June 2021, Colin revealed in an interview with the Daily Record that they were planning on doing it all again.
He says plans are underway to build up to five more hangars on their eight-acre plot.
