Guests at an airport hotel smashed “dirty” rooms after finding what appeared to be “blood stains” on bed linen.

Others staying at The Airport hotel in Manchester said there was “a strong stench of cigarette smoke” and said their bedding “had not been changed in three weeks”.

The budget hotel has faced complaints from many guests online, and some have claimed that they have found suspicious stains on blankets and dirt all over their bedrooms, Reporting by ManchesterEveningNews.

The property ranked 2 out of 5 bubbles on TripAdvisor is owned by Britannia Hotels – which was recently voted the worst hotel chain in the UK for its ninth year of operation.

In recent weeks, a series of “terrible” reviews have been shared on the travel website, with guests at the hotel branch Northenden labeling it “devious” and “dirty”.

One guest, named Emma, ​​testified that she had stayed in the hotel after fleeing domestic abuse.

Rated the hotel only one star, she wrote: “The cleaning staff who hadn’t changed my bedding in THREE WEEKS really thought I was going to be sick of the way they treated me.”

Another, named Laura, said she had a terrible experience when she found herself “sink” right through the mattress to the other side.

Laura testified that after changing rooms three times, she ended up with “stained bedding” once.

She said: “For room 215 and want to get some sleep.

“Pull back the blanket and the bed spring went through the mattress so we were given another room on the same floor. I sat on the bed and sank in! It jerked my back. I took a picture of the mattress to show the manager.

“Given a third room and the manager came with us and again a mattress with a spring sown (sic) through. He admitted that all the mattresses in the hotel were in good condition. same condition. Sorry.”

“So I asked for spare down comforters to sleep on to try to make a mattress from the springs. One of the spare down comforters had blood on it! Then I took the spare pillows down and they were covered in feathers. from a previous guest.

“There are also chocolate buttons under my bed and a cup of chupa cups under my friend’s bed. Definitely haven’t been cleaned. Putting a toilet sticker on the door doesn’t make any difference if you don’t smoke. floor dust!”

She also claims that she wakes up in the morning with “terrible back pain” and is forced to “lay on the dirty floor” to try to relieve it.

Another guest, Catherine B, said it was the “worst hotel” she had ever stayed in.

“Our allotted room was an unprepared room that had not been cleaned, it had filthy sheets on the bed that had been clearly slept in and mud on the carpet,” she said.

“This was fixed, but our room afterwards was awful.

“The mattress has springs that you can feel through the sheets, and the edge of the mattress has collapsed. The whole hotel is old and everything needs to be replaced.

“The elevator stinks of cigarette smoke. The whole place has an unpleasant smell, possibly due to the smoking rooms, cigarette smoke permeates the whole building. Avoid at all costs.”

Another user, Aidan, with a picture of stained doorknobs and stains on the floor, said: “Honestly, DO NOT STAY HERE! Rooms are filthy, not fit for purpose and all just was an absolute joke. Elevators looked like they hadn’t been replaced since the ’70s.”

The hotel, just 3 miles from Manchester Airport, has 1,822 reviews, with over 1,000 rating it either ‘poor’ or ‘terrible’ and just 87 reviews as ‘excellent’.

Which consumer watchdog? ranked at the bottom of the list of 24 major hotel chains. Surveying 2,371 hotel guests in the 15 months to October 2021, Britannia got only 49 points out of 100 possible.

Not everyone has had a bad experience at the Airport Hotel, though, with one recent guest saying it was “absolutely good”.

One person read: “Our room was fine. Really clean, warm and quite spacious but the bed was a bit old and uncomfortable.

“Also, it’s really hard for us to find fault. We got a burger and fries from the bar that were completely edible and we were only in the room for just over 12 hours. That’s it. not The Ritz and the room decor is a bit tired but for our purposes Britannia was perfectly fine.”

Another review recently added: “Perfect for our need for an early flight from Manchester airport! Room was clean if a bit basic but plenty of space for our family! Holiday staff! The receptionist was very friendly and efficient and the bar was very welcoming! Fits our needs perfectly! Great value for airport parking too!”
