Instagram is testing a way to create reels using formats from other posts

According to a report from Instagram, Instagram is testing a new feature called Templates, which will allow creators to create reels by borrowing formats from other videos on the platform insider (about TechCrunch). The function seems to be somewhat similar TikTok’s own template toolwhich allows creators to insert their own content into a pre-designed sequence.

reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi discovered an early release of templates in January while marketing managers and influencers Josephine Hill has already experienced the feature. In a screenshot posted by Hill in March, it looks like users can swap their own clips into preset frames and add their own audio. This could prevent users from downloading third-party templates from websites such as canvasor follow online tutorials closely to achieve a specific format, Hill pointed out insider.

“We’re always working on new ways to make creating Reels easier,” a Meta spokesperson said in a statement insider. “We’re testing the ability for you to create a role using an existing template from another role.” Instagram also said so insider that it is currently testing the feature with a small group of users. The edge reached out to Instagram for comment, but didn’t immediately receive a response.

The test comes as Instagram tries to attract more creators to Reels and tackles one of its biggest problems: TikTok reposts. Instagram announced it last year Stop promoting reels with TikTok watermarkand earlier this week, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced that the platform would be even tougher by downgrading reposts. Throwing templates into the mix could make it easier to create videos on reels and encourage the creation of more original content.
