INSTAGRAM finally lets you change the order of your feeds in three different ways.
One of the options is chronological, which allows you to view posts in actual chronological order.
The real change is just teased last month.
During a discussion with US lawmakers, boss Adam Mosseri revealed the feature has been in development for months and that they are aiming to roll it out as early as 2022.
Instagram originally showed snaps chronologically when it came out in 2010 but decided years later to use algorithms instead.
Algorithms figure out what they think you’ll like best and bring it to the top of your feed, based on how you interact with other things in the app.
The chronological comeback would be a big row back to the company’s previous claims that algorithms are best for experience.
People have long since cried out for Meta-have the foundation to bring back the old system.
Over the summer, Mosseri denied that, saying “most people can’t see things”.
Now it’s finally happened, as confirmed by Mosseri in a tweet.
“We’re starting to test the ability to switch between three different views on your Home screen,” said the Instagram boss.
“Two of them will give you the option to view the posts in chronological order.”
These views will be Home, Favorites, and Following.
The home page is a regular experience you have today, ranking content based on your interests.
Favorites pulled from your top accounts, including your closest friends, family, and other profiles you like.
And here’s the original Instagram experience in complete chronological order.
No exact timeframe has been given for a full release, although Mosseri has promised they will be available soon.
However, he says that these new feed options are available to some users now.
And in the coming weeks, even more Instagram users will be able to access them.
You can choose a feed option by tapping the drop-down menu at the top left of the app.
If it doesn’t appear for you, try updating the Instagram app.
And if you still can’t see it, it’s likely that your account hasn’t been approved.
Instagram regularly tests features across a variety of devices, across operating systems, countries, and user demographics.
This is to make sure the feature works as intended.
So, once all is working properly, the feature is fully rollable worldwide.
