Intercom reappoints co-founder Eoghan McCabe as CEO

Eoghan McCabe, co-founder and former CEO of Intercom, is returning to the company as CEO.

Surprisingly, Mr. McCabe will replace Karen Peacock, the outgoing CEO.

Mr. McCabe was CEO from 2011 to 2020. He then served as Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2020. Ms. Peacock will serve on the board in an advisory capacity for six months.

Speaking to, Mr McCabe said he wanted to “finish what he started”.

“For me, that means getting super aggressive. We pick a lead and start a fight. We choose to become one of the great leaders in space. In particular, we follow Zendesk in customer support.”

Intercom is one of Ireland’s unicorn companies, worth over $1 billion.

“Serving as CEO of Intercom has been a privilege and I want to thank the Intercom team for all we have been able to accomplish together,” said Karen Peacock, former CEO of Intercom. “I’m excited to see where Intercom is headed and what the next chapter will be.”

Mr. McCabe said he was invited back as CEO by the board.

“Intercom has transformed the loyalty industry, and Eoghan’s creativity and drive will help us open an exciting new chapter,” said Ethan Kurzweil, Partner at Bessemer Venture Partners.

Mr McCabe, 38, co-founded the company with Des Traynor, Ciaran Lee and David Barrett.

“I want to express my gratitude to Karen for her incredibly hard work during her tenure at Intercom,” McCabe said in his email. “In her five years as COO and CEO, we have matured in ways we could never have achieved without her. I have learned a lot from working with her during this time and I sincerely want to thank her.”
