Interest in Metaverse jobs increased by 900%

The Metaverse has been a hot topic for the past 6 months and many experts seem to have opinions on the concept; Still, according to a survey conducted in early 2022, only 16% of Americans are able to describe the definition of the metaverse.
Metaverse is a hot topic
In the past six months, the Metaverse has gone from being a little-known concept to being the subject of endless opinion, explanation, and debate.
Only 16% of Americans, in a poll earlier this year, could accurately describe Ipsos Mori’s definition of the Metaverse as “a virtual, computer-generated world in which people can socialize, work, and play.” A higher 42% were familiar with the general concept. In contrast, 69% said they were familiar with the term virtual reality and 56% with the term “cryptocurrency”.
900% increase in job interest despite lack of Metaverse knowledge
A Bankless Times study with more data on Metaverse interests and attitudes found that just 16% of people didn’t think they would ever work at the Metaverse, from a survey of more than 31,000 workers.
A modest 28% of Baby Boomers believed the Metaverse would be part of their jobs in the near future — up to 37% in Gen X, 48% of Millennials, and 51% of Gen Z.
The Bankless Times also noted a massive 938% increase in Google search interest for jobs in the Metaverse.
Jobs around the Metaverse will span two broad areas.
First, the jobs for designing, building, and maintaining the Metaverse infrastructure are created; That’s probably why searches for “metaverse jobs” skyrocketed when Microsoft announced it would acquire interactive games and entertainment company Activation Blizzard.
Then there are the existing jobs — from marketers to lawyers, customer service representatives to retailers — that are beginning to incorporate the Metaverse into their work lives. This can be meetings, conferences and work trips conducted via avatars; Metaverse-enabled shopping experiences in virtual warehouses; socializing in a team; and much more.
Hugo Feiler, CEO and co-founder of the blockchain network Minima, defines the Metaverse as a platform that combines existing technologies such as virtual reality, alternative reality, virtual worlds, digital economies and new business models in a decentralized system.
“We’re already seeing an entire industry evolving around the idea of the metaverse, with everyone from big brands to indie gaming studios trying to secure their place in the metaverse or build their own. We will see the creation of new jobs that we have not even imagined. I also believe that the metaverse can span the digital and real worlds in beneficial ways, e.g. by using AR/VR to train employees, or in a more mundane way, e.g. B. by helping people decide what fashion suits them best.”
