iPhone 14 is just WEEKS away – three biggest changes to come

APPLE is expected to launch a new iPhone in early September – but what will it look like?

We’ve rounded up three of the biggest changes we’re expecting based on all the leaks and rumors so far.

The iPhone's infamous display notch may soon be gone

A new face

Apple is expected to give the iPhone 14 Pro models a comprehensive facelift.

All rumors point to the “notch” being removed – the bit of the bezel that protrudes into the top edge of the screen.

This was introduced back in 2017 with the iPhone X.

It allowed Apple to offer a full-front screen by omitting the home button while embedding the selfie camera and Face ID in the notch.

Since then, we’ve seen many Android competitors offering full-body displays without a notch.

Now Apple is catching up with rumors of an iPhone 14 Pro that will have two tiny cutouts on the screen.

These include a small circular hole for the camera and a tiny pill-shaped gap for Face ID.

The regular non-Pro models of the iPhone 14 are expected to keep the same rough design as the iPhone 13.

No mini

In 2020, Apple launched the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Then in 2021 we saw the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

We now expect a change of strategy for 2022.

Apple is reportedly scrapping the mini model entirely and adding an iPhone 14 Max to the lineup instead.

This would mean:

  • iPhone 14
  • iphone 14 max
  • iPhone 14 pro
  • iPhone 14 pro max

This would mean the regular and Pro lines would have better symmetry – making performance and features the key differentiators.

More quickly!

One thing seems certain: Apple will build a new chip for the next iPhone.

We’re expecting the speedy A16 to debut in September and be even more powerful than the iPhone 13’s A15.

Exceptional processing power is now a given for Apple phones, so it’s no surprise.

But there is talk of a small change this year.

Regular iPhone 14 models are rumored to stick with last year’s A15 Bionic chip.

And insiders say only the iPhone 14 Pro models will get the upgrade to the A16 processor.

And a few extras…

Here are some of the other changes and features rumored to be coming to the iPhone 14…

  • 2 terabytes of storage space
  • 120 Hz ProMotion display (like the iPad Pro)
  • A starting price of $799 (or £779/£799)
  • eSIMs instead of physical SIMs
  • New purple color option
  • Titanium design for the first time
  • Possible switch to USB-C instead of Lightning connector for some models
  • Various camera improvements

Of course, none of this is certain.

We won’t know the truth until Apple CEO Tim Cook takes the stage to announce the new models in September.

Until then, all leaks and rumors should be treated with due caution.
