IF YOU have the latest iPhone update, there is a clever trick you can use.
The new iOS 16 lets you fully customize your lock screen — but it gets even better.
There’s a new trick called Photo Shuffle that will show you a new picture every time you wake up your iPhone.
You can choose the images yourself, so you’re not totally surprised when a photo of a takeaway or a receipt pops up.
It’s a smart way to personalize your lock screen and keep it really fresh.
First, make sure you have iOS 16 by going to Settings > General > Software update.
How to use Photo Shuffle on iOS 16
Go to your lock screen and touch and hold it.
Now wait for Customize to appear, then tap the + at the bottom of the screen.
Next, select the Photo Shuffle option.
You will be presented with a lot of options.
For example, you can select specific faces to display from the People category.
Or you can choose Pets, Nature, or Cities—or even a combination of these.
And at the very bottom there is another option to easily select the photos manually.
You can also change the random frequency, which determines how quickly the photos change.
- On tap
- on lock
Once you’ve made your selection, activate the feature and it’s live.
You can switch to your old wallpaper at any time by tapping and holding and swiping on the lock screen.

Link your lock screen to a focus
You can also set a focus on a specific lock screen.
Go into your focus settings and customize the lock screen for that focus.

You could set it to a navy blue or some kind of star scene.
It can also be worth creating a professional lock screen for work – with different widgets too.
