“Now you can get a notification when a severe weather alert has been issued,” Apple tells iPhone owners.

“Weather can send you notifications for rain, snow, and certain relevant severe weather alerts.”

How to join the iOS 16 beta program

To join the iOS beta, all you have to do is sign up on Apple’s website here.

But before you do that, seriously consider whether installing an iOS beta is right for you.

It’s test software by nature, which means there are bugs – some that can be quite annoying, making it a bit risky for your main device.

“Help make the next releases of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS and HomePod software our best yet,” Apple said.

“As a member of the Apple Beta Software Program, you can participate in shaping Apple software by testing pre-release versions and letting us know what you think.”

The beta will also include a special app called Feedback Assistant, which you can use to report any issues you find.

You need a valid Apple ID, and that’s it – there are no fees or compensation.

Installing the beta will also not affect your hardware warranty.

You can leave the beta at any time.
