APPLE has agreed to pay out $20m/£16m to iPhone owners for an iOS update that went wrong years ago.
The case has raged since 2015, when a group claimed iOS 9 slowed down their iPhone 4S phones so much they had to buy new phones.
Worse, they couldn’t undo the damage.
After seven years, the tech giant has reached an agreement – but there’s a catch.
The case was filed in a New York court, meaning only those from the Big Apple and New Jersey are eligible for compensation.
It will only be available to people from these areas who own or have had an iPhone 4S and have downloaded iOS 9.
Considering how long it’s been, that may be difficult for many to prove.
But legal documents state that individuals “must provide an affidavit that, to the best of their knowledge, they have downloaded iOS 9 or any version thereof on their “iPhone” 4S… their “iPhone” 4S has experienced a significant decline in performance as a result.” “.
And everyone who’s eligible won’t get much – each person only gets $15/£12.
The settlement has yet to be finalized before people can start making claims.

Once sorted, a dedicated website and phone number will be made available, MacRumors reports.
When Apple released iOS 9 in September 2015, the company claimed it was the “most advanced mobile experience.”
They also said it would offer “faster scrolling” and “better overall performance,” but many iPhone 4S owners complained that it did the exact opposite.
Apple released the iPhone 4S in October 2011.
