Ireland weather forecast: Met Éireann predicts a mild and rainy bank holiday weekend

It looks like the sunny sights of the past few days have come to an end for the May bank holiday as an overcast, drizzly weekend is in store.

there will be fairly persistent rain today which will become heavy over time, particularly over higher ground in Donegal.

“By contrast, parts of the South West could have a mostly dry day with a chance of some brighter spells,” a Met Éireann forecaster said.

“Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees, mildest in the southwest. Southwest winds will be intermittently fresh in the north but generally light to moderate elsewhere.”

Tonight it will remain mostly cloudy, but it will remain mild with lows of seven to ten degrees.

Sunday will be cloudy again with showers, with some heavier outbreaks of showers in the east later in the afternoon.

“It will gradually get drier and lighter from the north into the evening, with the possibility of some late sunbursts in the north and northeast,” said the national meteorologist.

“Maximum temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees, with a slightly changing breeze.”

Sunday night will remain mostly dry with some clear spells and isolated patches of light rain or drizzle in the south and west, with lows remaining mild of five to nine degrees.

Bank Holiday Monday starts out fairly cloudy with showers in the morning, but some bright and sunny intervals should develop into the evening.

It’s also going to be a fairly mild day with highs of 13 to 17 degrees.

Monday night will see some scattered showers and clear spells and although Tuesday morning will be mostly cloudy, it will later become drier and lighter to give way to more sun towards the end of the week.

“Current indications are that high pressure will keep our weather fairly stable towards the end of the week, with only a few intermittent coastal showers,” a Met Éireann forecaster said.

“Very pleasant too with sunny spells and highs in the mid to high teens while winds remain mostly light.” Ireland weather forecast: Met Éireann predicts a mild and rainy bank holiday weekend
