Ireland weather forecast: Risk of thunderstorms and hail in the west but bright and windy in the east, says Met Éireann

Various parts of the country will see a mix of sunshine and intermittent heavy showers on Sunday.

While sunshine and clear spells are best seen in the east, more showers will be seen in the western half of the country, which will be heavy at times with a risk of isolated thunderstorms and hail. Highs range from nine to 12 degrees with gusty winds at times.

Overnight scattered showers of rain will begin to spread towards Monday morning, leading to a generally dry and sunny day.

There will be some isolated showers, mainly near the western and northern Atlantic coasts. The maximum values range from eight to eleven degrees.

Met Éireann said the general outlook for the next few days is expected to be “fairly stable with lighter winds and occasional rain or drizzle, while temperatures will generally be close to average”.

Temperatures will be near freezing at times overnight on Monday and fog and mist will be slow to clear the northern half of the country on Tuesday.

“Elsewhere it will be generally dry with a mix of clouds and clear spells. Highest temperatures from 6 to 11 degrees, they remain coolest where fog persists with a light southerly breeze. Rain and windier conditions will develop in the south-west throughout the evening,” Met Éireann said.

Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be somewhat calmer with only patchy outbreaks, mostly in the northern half of the country. Brighter periods are expected in the south with occasional sunny spells. The maximum temperatures will hardly exceed the double-digit range with in places maximum temperatures of 11 degrees.

“Uncertainty is increasing towards the weekend with intermittent bursts of rain in the south and west, but it will generally be calm but cooler with moderate easterly winds,” the forecaster said.
