Ireland Weather: Yellow status Rain and wind warning for five counties as heavy downpours are expected

Five counties are currently on a status yellow rain and wind warning, while heavy downpours are expected across the country today.

The warning has been issued for counties Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo and will remain in place until 2pm this afternoon.

“Tonight and Friday morning will be wet and windy with strong and gusty southerly winds developing. Heavy rains can cause localized flooding,” Met Éireann said.

The forecaster said it will be wet and windy this morning, with “widespread heavy rain and gusty downpours leading to a risk of flooding and dangerous road conditions”.

Rain will clear up east to sunny spells and showers by afternoon. The highest temperatures are between 14 °C and 17 °C.

Tonight will be windy with clear spells and extended showers. The Atlantic coastal regions will see heavy rain and thunder, with lowest temperatures of 9C to 11C.

Met Éireann said there will be sunshine and showers tomorrow, with some heavy downpours and highs of 13C to 16C.

Saturday night will remain mostly dry with isolated showers in the north. It will be cloudier on the south coasts, with the possibility of rain and drizzle. Minimum temperatures of 7°C to 9°C are expected.

Sunday will be mostly dry, with scattered sunshine and scattered showers on the north coast. The highest temperatures are between 13 °C and 16 °C.

Sunday night will remain mostly dry, with clear spells and lows of 7°C to 9°C.

Met Éireann said Monday will be mostly cloudy, with rain and drizzle developing in the west in the afternoon, while the east will be mostly dry for most of the day. Maximum temperatures of 14°C to 17°C are forecast.

Monday evening temperatures will not drop below 11C to 14C as the rain moves east.

Tuesday will be wet and windy, with intermittent heavy rain and highs of 16C to 19C.
