Despite landing with life-changing spoils, proud family members insist on Ger – a native of Kilmaine, Co. Mayo – didn’t “lose one’s own escape”.

And today they tell about how a millionaire is still a “son of a family”, revealing how he landed a modest pub in the village where he lived.

Minted Ger recently invested in Jack Murphy’s pub in Kilmaine with relatives describing the expense as “an exceptional purchase”.

Delivering the exciting news to the Irish Sun, a family member told us: “Ger is doing great. He bought a pub in Kilmaine, which should have been owned by the family in his great-grandfather’s time.

“He just bought that recently. So it’s a particularly okay buy.

“He didn’t have to run it himself, he bought it, he was the investor.

“Jack Murphy’s is a bar, he has someone else running it for him.

“Ger is definitely enjoying himself.”

The father-of-four won the jackpot in 2015 after playing the same numbers over the past 20 years counting from his children’s birth dates.

Newspaperman Martin Murphy, who is married to Ger’s sister, sold the lucky ticket for my brother-in-law at his shop in Ballinrobe.

PROUD FAMILY

Speaking to the Irish Sun, Martin told us of the family’s pride in how Ger handled the bumper case.

Martin said: “He is in good health.

“Thank God he kept himself sane and didn’t lose himself, that was great.

“Once you get over it and accept it, you’ll be fine.

“A lot of people wasted it and a lot of people lost their escape.

“But he handled himself very well.

WIN CHANGING LIFE

“For a man who doesn’t have big money deals, he would be great. The family is very proud of him.”

Chippy Ger made headlines when she and her children picked up a huge prize from her tree at the National Lottery office in Dublin.

This man revealed to the Irish Sun how his children’s birthdays have helped him achieve fame and fortune.

Ger has been playing the same numbers, generated from the birth dates of his children, for decades, and says of his victory: “It’s all because of my kids.”

PLEASE FROM PEOPLE TRYING

Six years on, the multi-millionaire jackpot continues to be bombarded with cash pleas from strangers.

But brother-in-law Martin said that the lottery winner Ger was determined not to lose the bingo.

Martin said: “It’s amazing, there are still people chasing him if he comes to town, people bothering him, looking for money and saying ‘I’ll give it back to you’. Sure, they’re in every town.

“He’s keeping himself busy, he’s got a couple of horses and he’s enjoying it.”
