An IRISH woman showed how she revamped her kitchen for just €50 using a countertop sticker.
Influencer Shauna O’Connor, who posts on social media as @home.diy.diary, has shared her inexpensive trick to give any kitchen an instant makeover in when you have a savings budget.
The RTE The Grand DIY Challenge finalist chronicles her life with power tools and kids juggling on Instagram and TikTok.
With over 160,000 TikTok followers, she explained in a video the steps she followed to apply contact to her old items.
“Clean the countertop thoroughly and then roll the contact paper,” she said.
“Cut it a little longer than you need.
“I started peeling the contact off the back. I find the easiest to manage is to actually roll the contact paper back and that makes it easier to remove the contact paper from the back.
“The key trick of it is to leave some excess contact paper protruding just in case your walls align.

“Use a rubber broom to get the air bubbles out. The paper roll should be raised so that you only have a little paper contact down at the time you are removing air bubbles slowly.
“I’m using DC repair here so if at any stage you feel there’s too much air bubbles, just lift it up and reapply.”
The Kerry The woman explained that the counter top is heat resistant up to 75 degrees Celsius.
Then, when you get to the end, use a hair dryer so you can stretch the contact around the edges of the worktop, she continued.
“Continue to use the squeegee and then cut off any excess that the knife then goes back to the walls to cut off any excess exposed paper that you are happy with.
“The last thing to do is silicone along the wall.”
DIY enthusiasts still have to stick the silicone along the wall, but the new counter top has been completely transformed.
The Irish mother says the bed can be removed just by using a hair dryer, which would be ideal for tenants.
She added: “This is just one counter but I’ve done it all over my stovetops for around €50!”
Many followers commented that it looked “great” and was a “smart idea”.
