Irish rugby hero Peter O’Mahony’s wife said she was surprised he’d made it to Europe in one piece.
It came after a video was shared of O’Mahony and Bundee Aki celebrating in New Zealand after Ireland beat the All-Blacks in the Test series last week.
Ireland won the last game 32-22 to finish the summer tour as world number one.
The video shows Peter O’Mahony and Bundee Aki talking to police officers in Wellington while Irish fans celebrate behind them and sing “Ole, Ole, Ole”.
With the celebrations in full swing in the background, the pair were keen to join in the fun and ran into the crowd, but not before Bundee Aki grabbed a piece of chicken from a bystander.
Peter O’Mahony has now joined his wife Jessica and their three children for the holidays after a month apart.
His wife said on Instagram: “I’m as surprised as you are that Pete made it back to Europe in one piece. Anyway – gave him full custody of the three children. Cheers to me.”
Many of the Irish team and fans broke down in tears after Ireland’s win over New Zealand, including Peter O’Mahoney, who gave a moving interview after the game.
“That says a lot, behind me. You know, it’s never been done before to win here to get a series win,” he said.
“You probably didn’t think of that as a young guy. But now there will be young people at home who dream of playing for Ireland and winning here.”
“It must have been done before. It won’t be the job it was. It will never be taken away from this group. That they are the first to do it. Not just a win, but winning a series here.”
