An Irish tourist has reportedly drowned while swimming in the sea off Menorca.

The 69-year-old, who was not named, was on vacation on the Balearic island when trouble broke out in the Paupa area near Cala Torret.

Bystanders pulled the victim out of the sea and attempted to revive her before police and paramedics intervened.

Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened on Friday night and local reports say he was on vacation with friends on the island.

The man is the third tourist to drown in Menorca this week, after a 70-year-old Briton died in a block of flats pool on Monday and a 50-year-old Italian man died after reportedly suffering a heart attack while swimming in the sea on Tuesday.

In neighboring Mallorca, too, several swimmers have recently drowned or had to be rescued.

A 79-year-old tourist from Sweden drowned on Friday, while a British holidaymaker needed resuscitation on Thursday after getting into trouble in the water.

Rescue workers resuscitated the 65-year-old after she was spotted face down in the water on a beach in the popular resort of Puerto de Pollensa.

Police said she was hospitalized after life-saving CPR was performed at the scene for nearly an hour.

She was admitted to the intensive care unit of a private clinic called Hospital Quironsalud Palmaplanas.

It wasn’t immediately clear if she was alone on the beach known as Tamarells Beach when the drama unfolded on Thursday afternoon.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard confirmed: “The alarm went off just after 5 p.m.

“Lifeguards made the first attempts to revive her after she was pulled from the water before rescuers took over and performed advanced CPR on her when they reached the scene.

“She was revived after about 50 minutes and taken to the hospital.”

Tamarells Beach, which offers stunning panoramic views of Puerto de Pollensa Marina Bay and the mountains, has a popular bar-restaurant.

Former British Prime Minister David Cameron is said to have lunched there during a previous family holiday in the area.
