Irving Azoff’s Iconic Artists Group buys rights from Nat King Cole

Irving Azoff’s Iconic Artists Group has signed an agreement with the family of Nat King Cole, to “manage, protect, preserve and expand” the legendary artist’s musical legacy.

According to a media statement, the agreement includes multiple rights to Cole’s career including recorded, published music, television shows as well as his name and image.

Cole’s has had over 150 singles chart on Billboardspop, R&B and country charts and have sold more than 50 million records worldwide.

A renowned singer and jazz pianist, Cole is remembered for countless iconic classics including Thinking very of you, Stand Up and Fly Now, Unforgettable, Nature Boy, Stardust, When I Was In Love, Mona Lisa, LOVE, and Christmas song (Christmas roasted over a bonfire).

In 1946, a 15-minute national radio program, Now the King Cole Trio, aired and was the first of its kind hosted by a Black musician.

In 1956, he became the first black artist to host a national network variety show, NBC’s . Nat King Cole show.

Cole was also a featured actor in films including China Gate (1957), St. Louis Blues (1958) and Cat Ballou (1965).

Cole’s catalog has won six platinum and two gold album awards, and six times RIAA– certified platinum Christmas song.

In 1959, he won the Grammy Award for Best Performance by a “Top 40” Artist for Leaflet at midnight and in 1963, honored with a special achievement award from the Golden Globe.

He was later honored with a lifetime achievement award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Beginning his career as a jazz and classical piano prodigy, Cole signed with Capitol Recorded in 1943 and released her first album as lead vocalist of The King Cole Trio in 1945, topping the Billboard first album chart.

Cole’s phenomenal success led to the construction of the landmark Capitol Records Tower on Vine Street in Hollywood known as “The House Nat Built”.

In March 2021 David Crosby sold his portfolio for Irving Azoff’s Iconic Artists Group for an undisclosed amount.

Iconic Artists has acquired Crosby’s publishing and recording rights, including his solo work, as well as his work with The Byrds; Crosby & Nash; Crosby, Stills & Nash; and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

Deal comes in just two weeks after Azoff’s company acquired a controlling stake intellectual property of the Beach Boys, including the band’s recordings, trademarks, selected musical works, and memorabilia.Worldwide music business
