5G is all around us – and probably near you too, especially if you live in a city.
Many iPhone and Android phones now support 5G, so it might be time for you to upgrade.

What is 5G?
Just like 4G (and 3G before that), 5G is simply a new generation of mobile internet.
Phone networks have tweaked the technology to deliver faster speeds — calling it the “5th Generation”. generation” or 5G.
In the UK, 5G speeds are already reaching ten times the average 4G speeds.
To get 5G you need to live in the right area, have a 5G phone plan and also have a 5G capable phone.
Large parts of the UK (mainly urban for now) will get 5G coverage.
And many phone manufacturers have made 5G-enabled handsets, including Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus, and now even Apple.
Finally, it is important to remember that 5G is completely safe and cannot give you cancer or coronavirus.
Scientists have completely debunked claims of “deadly 5G radiation,” so enjoy your fast internet in peace.
Is the iPhone 5G?
5G has been incompatible with all iPhone models for months.
But in October 2020 Apple launched the iPhone 12 – in four models, all supporting 5G.
So if you buy a new iPhone 12 or iPhone 13, you can get 5G speeds. Provided, of course, that you have a 5G phone plan and a SIM card.

Can I get 5G in my area?
Most mobile networks in the UK now offer 5G.
There are many different companies selling 5G services.
But most commonly piggybacked by four main providers: EE, Three, O2 and Vodafone.
Below you can find out if they offer 5G services in your area…
EE has rolled out 5G in 112 towns and cities across the UK.
However, it will not be available in every single part of these cities.

Three recently claimed to have covered more than half of the UK population with 5G signals.

O2 has sent 5G to areas within 30 cities.
And the network has committed to reaching a total of 50 locations by summer 2020.

Vodafone offers 5G internet at 41 locations across the UK.
And it says you can also access 5G in 70 locations in Germany, Spain, Italy and Ireland.
