SUSSEX has seemingly become the new Hollywood as A-list stars have been spotted filming across the country.
Oscar winner Olivia Colman, Bafta nominee Timothy Spall and veteran actor Sir Michael Caine were all spotted this week while filming for various productions took place.
Filming of upcoming historical comedy Wicked Little Letters has taken parts of Sussex back to the 1920s, with a number of food stalls and posters from the period and deckchairs lining the street near Worthing Lido.
Timothy Spall was seen walking down the city’s esplanade with a 20’s cop, while Olivia Colman was spotted wearing an outfit from the period during filming in Arundel.
Set in Littlehampton, Wicked Little Letters follows a group of women as they set out to solve the mystery of who is writing a series of “scandalous and obscene” letters to people in the town.
Italian Job star Sir Michael Caine has been spotted on the beach at Camber Sands for his new film The Great Escaper.
Based on a true story, it sees Sir Michael Hove veteran Bernard Jordan escape from his nursing home to attend the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.
Production also took place for the small screen in Sussex this week, with filming continuing on ITV crime drama Grace, based on the novels by Brighton author Peter James.
Film crews were at a house near Hove Park, although the show’s stars John Simm and Richie Campbell were not seen.
It comes just weeks after YouTube star Jacksepticeye, real name Sean McLoughlin, described Brighton as “mini LA” on a podcast.
Speaking on an episode of Trash Taste, the vlogger and gamer, who moved to the city from Ireland in 2017, said: “I had been thinking about moving and I thought LA was a bit too far away and you would have to get a visa. I might have thought of London, but it’s just a nightmare – the traffic is terrible, there are too many people and it’s too crowded for someone who grew up in a tiny town.
“When I went to Brighton I thought ‘this is lovely’ – it’s small, the beach is here and my friends are there.
“I thought, ‘This is perfect, why should I live anywhere else?'”
