“Just went home for Christmas, my pop is that the guy is behind the scenes and helping me grow my money and make my money work for me. He sat me down and told me how much I was worth and my jaw hit the floor.

“I was like ‘yo, really?’ and he said ‘yes’ I said ‘s*** we could have stopped ages ago if it was just about the money’ but to me it’s not just about the money I’m young I’m fresh , hungry and i want to fuck these moms while i can.

“Money will come, money will always come. I don’t fight for money. In the UFC, [everyone you fight] is a killer, he’s a guy who can hit you.

Adesanya claimed if he had only been fighting for money he could have retired ahead of his stoppage win over Paulo Costa in 2020. The 32-year-old was guaranteed $600,000 for that fight but also received an additional $90,000 in bonuses.

“If it was about money, I would have bounced off. I would have done that maybe three fights ago because I’m kind of committed. I’ve got one of the smartest men with money behind me and he’s helping me turn money around in a smart way,” Adesanya said ahead of his final fight.

“It’s not about money. I love money, don’t get me wrong. I’m doing this for the money, but it’s not about the money. This is about legacies, this is about martial arts, this is about learning. I haven’t lost that step, I’m still hungry.”

Adesanya is one of the UFC’s biggest stars and is still unbeaten in promotion at 185 pounds. Having knocked out most of the top middleweight contenders, Adesanya is likely to defend his belt against 2nd place Jared Cannonier this summer.
