It Takes Two, the cooperative platformer that won Game of the Year in 2021, has a film adaptation on the way.

In an exclusive report from Variety, the project is officially in development at Amazon Studios, and a whole host of other big names are reportedly involved. Namely those of Seven Bucks Production: Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.

We know Dwayne Johnson will be helping produce the film adaptation of It Takes Two, but it has yet to be confirmed if he will be in the film. I could see him play as the book of love what do you think?

As for the script, writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller – the brains behind Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – will be adapting the game for the big screen while serving as executive producers. Additionally, the developers of the original game – Josef Fares and Oskar Wolontis – will also serve as executive producers on the film alongside dj2 producers Dmitri M. Johnson and Dan Jevons.

The film is said to follow a similar narrative to the game. May and Cody plan a divorce when they somehow find themselves in two dolls made of them by their daughter Rose. As a result, they must embark on an adventure together to return to their original bodies. It Takes Two is about relationships and communication and worked effortlessly as a game that was charming, touching and also frustrating.

The gameplay lets you immerse yourself in May and Cody’s relationship as they try to fix things, and the narrative isn’t perfect. If anything, it’s the inventive cooperative gameplay and style of the game that makes it so quirky, so I’m not sure how well this will do as a movie.

Although video game movies have improved in recent years, we can hope.
