Domhnall Gleeson brilliantly confronted Stephen Colbert for mispronouncing his name during a recent appearance on the host’s late-night talk show.

he actor promoting his latest series The patient — in which he stars alongside Steve Carell — appeared on The late show with Stephen Colbert earlier this week.

Shortly after being greeted onstage, Gleeson told Colbert, “You can imagine my dismay when you had Steve Carell on the show a few weeks ago and you said, ‘Now, on this series, you’re with Dom-nom -nall Gleeson together. It was a car accident. It was a disaster.”

Colbert replied, “You can’t blame me! Irish names are impossible! Siobhan?!”

“I don’t buy that from a Colbert,” Gleeson retorted to cheers from the crowd.

A viewer shared a clip of the exchange on Twitter with the caption, “Deeply obsessed that Domhnall Gleeson is shaming Stephen Colbert for fooling the pronunciation of his name.” The post has had 3,358 likes at the time of writing.

Gleeson once explained how to pronounce the name Domhnall: “It’s pronounced like Tonal with a ‘d’ instead of a ‘t’, and the ‘m’ is just there to confuse Americans.”

The patient is now available on Hulu in the US. A UK release date has yet to be announced.
