On the eve of his Masters debut, Seamus Power expressed hope his hometown of Waterford could become All Ireland hurling champions for the first time since 1959.

he Touraneena man, himself a talented underage hurler and footballer before committing himself to golf, made sure to get regular updates on last Saturday’s National League final defeat by Cork while still based in Augusta.

“I didn’t see it, but I followed it,” he revealed after yesterday’s final practice session with 2020 champion Dustin Johnson.

“They played very well, I heard. I know everyone has their own opinion about the league but they look very good.

“That was an impressive win as there was no Jamie (Barron) and no Austin (Gleeson). I think with the championship coming up so quickly and the league being more compact, the league is a bit more important than it used to be.

“Look, we’ll see. Of course you have to have some luck and avoid injuries, but I think they have as good a chance as anyone this year.

Ah it would be great Jesus it would be brilliant if they did it to Ballygunner after they also won Club All-Ireland.
