Viewers were displeased this evening when the 2022 BAFTA TV Awards muted and censored clips from It’s A Sin, with some branding “horrible” editing.

The critically-acclaimed Channel 4 drama hit five gongs tonight but – to fans’ disappointment – didn’t pick up a single win.

To add to the trauma, the ceremony appeared to have cut the audio from the clips used when Callum Scott Howells and David Carlyle were nominated in the Supporting Actor category.

When an example of each actor’s performance was broadcast, the audio seemed to be muted in the middle.

At first, viewers believed it was a mistake, however another clip was aired of the film – which chronicles the lives of gay men and their friends during the AIDs and HIV crisis – in a separate category also seems to be silent.

Angry fans took to Twitter to comment, with one piece writing: “Spend the night thinking #Baftas was shoddy as the audio continued to play. Finally they censored clips from It’s a Sin.”

While another simmered: “Aside from the fact that It’s a Sin didn’t win anything at #BAFTAs, the fact that the BBC twice censored its scenes in Its A Sin when the clips were about AIDS is just a joke. mind blowing for me?!?!?!? Once may be a matter of sound but twice. Are we becoming Russia or Florida!”

A third wrote: “Gutted for It’s a Sin, one of the most important TV shows of this generation and completely defeated despite being nominated for the most awards. Sound censorship is also a big hit. a joke. #BAFTAS.”

“We’re not allowed to talk about Aids at 18:30 ??!! If they cut the audio because of swearing then show the clip without it!!” other smoke.

One person raged: “#BAFTAS the editing on this is horrible, put it after or don’t show it. Also stop cutting the audio when ITS A SIN is displayed. And also… Why is that? #Gogglebox speech cut?! ORDER IT GO!!!”
