ITV drama Grace is filmed at the old Lidl in Burgess Hill

Lights, cameras and action will soon bring an empty supermarket to life as filming begins on a new series of ITV drama Grace in Burgess Hill.

The drama, starring John Simm as DS Roy Grace, has received permission to film in the Heights building and at Lidl – which was used as a morgue during the last series.

Approval to use the sites at The Martlets was granted on Thursday during a meeting of Mid Sussex District Council’s planning committee.

Liberal Democrat Councilor Robert Eggleston said: “It’s an odd way to use these buildings, but I think a bit of glamor at The Martlets shopping center cannot be ignored.”

Grace was filmed at many places of interest in Brighton and Hove, with some scenes also taking place at locations in other parts of Sussex.

Filming for the third season of ITV’s Grace began in Rottingdean in August, with scenes being shot at St Margaret’s Church, Nevill Road and Beacon Hill.

Filming was later spotted at the train station and in Hove.

Stars of the show were spotted around Hove Lagoon on August 31st filming for the third season.

DJ Fatboy Slim, who lives nearby, even stopped by to chat with the crew on set.

Guests arriving at The Grand Hotel earlier this year were in for an unexpected surprise when Peter James worked as a concierge while researching a character.

Season 3 of Grace, starring Life on Mars actor John Simm in the title role of DSI Roy Grace, is slated to hit screens sometime next year.

The new season is based on three books by Brighton author Peter: Dead Like You, Dead Man’s Grip and Not Yet Dead.

Dead Man’s Grip examines how fictional journalist Kevin Spinella is hacked to obtain information from Roy Grace’s calls and messages.

In another episode, Roy will wonder how Spinella got such accurate information and will confront him, but Spinella attributes this entirely to his sound journalistic instinct.

The show is filmed at many of Brighton and Hove’s famous landmarks including Devil’s Dyke which has been renamed Hob’s Dyke for legal reasons for the series.

However, Peter said he was “determined” to include a real-life newspaper in the series and insisted The Argus kept its name.

“I was adamant that we wouldn’t have a fictional newspaper, and I know everyone at The Argus would be a lot happier if we knew their actual name,” said Peter.
