Rochelle Humes sheds tears as Ruth Dodsworth says she wouldn’t be alive if she wasn’t free from her abusive husband

ITV weather presenter Ruth Dodsworth said she had alarms installed “everywhere” at home as she revealed her “dangerous” ex-husband was about to be released from prison.

The 46-year-old broadcaster and journalist Jonathan’s former associate were jailed a year ago after he pleaded guilty to stalking and coercive control.

Today, Ruth – a familiar face on ITV Wales – told her Twitter followers that she spoke to police about how she can protect her home and family before he has can be released.

She wrote on social media: “Exactly one year ago, today my ex-husband committed the crime of stalking and forced control.

“This afternoon I learned with South Wales Police how to secure his home/family before he could be released.

“That’s our reality. Alarms are everywhere! All is well but it’s not over.”

She added: “He was sentenced to three years and nine months, to run concurrently.

“Was told to serve a minimum of half. Early release can be booked four and a half minutes before the end of the first half.

“This is clearly the norm. Lifetime embargo, yes. But it’s just a piece of paper. He’s a dangerous guy.”

Ruth has been slowly trying to continue her relationship with her ex.

Her ex-lover dictates everything she does

Last June, she revealed that she had met a new partner and was enjoying her new-found freedom.

Over the course of 20 years, her ex dictates everything about her life, from the clothes she wears, where she can go and who she can see, even having a tracking device attached to her car so he can track her movements, WalesOnline reported.

At the time, she said, “I’m healing, I’m having to relearn how to live. Practical things like wearing what I want. That may sound too trivial to others, but has it ever been? I haven’t been able to make those decisions for a long time.

“Relearning how to have sex with other men is the loveliest thing, but I had to relearn how to behave.

“I don’t have to hide my phone. I don’t have to say where I am every minute of every day. These are things I’m relearning, but I’m doing it.”

“It was the most overwhelming experience of my life, but it was completely, completely positive,” she said.

“I don’t really want the story out there but in deep perception I think it’s the most amazing thing that ever happened.”

The couple previously met in 2001, a year after Ruth became a weather presenter, and they married in 2002.
