I’ve been stuck in my house for FIVE YEARS after crashing on a ramp

A SICK mother has been trapped in her home for years and is now planning to sue her association after the scandal broke.

Dawn Steel, 58, has been using a wheelchair since 2013 when she received a knee replacement shortly after moving into her home in Solihull, Birmingham.

Since then, the mother-of-two has been unable to leave the house on her own and has been caught up in a dispute with the property management company.

She is forced to depend on grocery deliveries and requires an ambulance to get to any of her hospital appointments.

Dawn requested that a wheelchair ramp be installed outside her home so she could get in and out on her own.

The building management company, to whom Dawn pays £2,000 a year in property management fees, has been blamed for delaying the process.

Dawn has secured council funding for the ramp, meaning it won’t cost the company anything to get the job done.

But they refused to sign on to works that would keep Dawn from being trapped in her house 24 hours a day.

Dawn said: “I feel like a recluse in my own home, everyone used to whine about being stuck with Covid for a month or two, but try and do it for a little while. nine years without seeing anyone.

“What kind of life is that? Why do I have to move? Why do I have to move? I bought this apartment when I can move around.

Dawn has now become so fed up with satire that she’s suing and starting a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for a lawyer.

She hopes to raise £1,500 to cover the fees and believes the case can help others in similar circumstances.

The money will be used to pay attorneys to investigate and try to resolve the license issue without going to court.

Dawn is expected to find out in March if her cancer has returned and said the stressful situation has left her feeling anxious and depressed.

“It’s only gotten worse over the years because I’m stuck here and I don’t see anyone,” she continued.

“It’s just one step forward and two steps back.

“Everybody else can step out, but what about me? Physically and emotionally, I’m trash.”

Her daughter Laura believes these issues have caused emotional damage to her mother, who feels trapped.

She said: “She couldn’t leave the place on her own. My brother bought her a mobility scooter to take her out but she waited too long for them to arrange the ramp. slope.”

Shirley Councilor Max McLoughlin joined the effort to address the issue and supported Dawn with its crowdfunding page.

“They initially said that some residents might be concerned it would affect the price of their flats,” he said.

“But the actual plans for it won’t affect the value of the property, it won’t detract from the look, and we’re signing a license agreement that it will be returned to its original condition once it’s not. still needed.”

“It doesn’t make any sense to me, I can’t think of a logical or logical reason.

“What I’ve been through before is it’s really hard to get funding and grants to get people to get this work done.

“That’s where the big hurdle usually comes in but it seems really odd that someone would have a problem when it’s not costing them anything at all.

“If you’re in an apartment and someone has a driveway to their property, it doesn’t affect your property value at all.

“Having someone else in a wheelchair on the property shouldn’t have any impact on your insurance, on your resale value or anything else.”
