J.D. Martinez won’t play for Boston Red Sox in American League Wild Card Game

Boston Red Sox slugger J.D. Martinez has been left off the playoff roster for the American League Wild Card Sport in opposition to the visiting New York Yankees on Tuesday evening at Fenway Park as he continues to get better from a sprained left ankle.

Martinez suffered the damage within the fifth inning of Sunday’s regular-season finale when he tripped over the second-base bag whereas jogging out to proper discipline. He continued getting treatment on the ankle Monday.

Outfielder Jarren Duran was included on the wild-card roster, giving Boston a possible velocity choice on the basepaths, as was Nick Pivetta, who threw an inning of scoreless aid in opposition to the Nationals on Sunday. One other participant on the roster is lefty reliever Josh Taylor, who has not pitched since Sept. 22 whereas recovering from a again pressure.

Chris Sale, who began Sunday’s recreation, was not on the roster.

Yankees ace Gerrit Cole (16-8) faces Nathan Eovaldi (11-9) at Fenway. The Yankees-Crimson Sox winner will transfer on to face the AL East champion Tampa Bay Rays starting Thursday in St. Petersburg, Florida.
