Jack Dorsey is not a CEO, he is the block head

Jack Dorsey’s new title at Block isn’t CEO, it’s Block Head. No, this is not a very belated April Fool’s joke. The company submitted one 8-K with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Announcement of the change – and of course the new title came out on April 20th. in force.

Despite the new title (which reads “Block Head and Chairperson” in full), Dorsey’s job at Block, the company formerly known as Square, will ultimately remain the same: There will be “no changes in Mr. Dorsey’s roles and responsibilities and he will continue to serve as the Company’s chief executive officer.” Block’s articles of incorporation also no longer require the company to have an officer with the title of CEO and President, which appears to mean that anyone succeeding Dorsey in his role could also be named Block Head.

The change was made at Dorsey’s request, according to the file. Maybe he saw his square face on Block’s official “Leadership” website, which I used as the image at the top of this post, and decided to do the whole joke. (As of press time, this page still lists his title as CEO.)

Dorsey follows Elon Musk in running a company, but takes on a crazy title instead of CEO when Musk crowned himself the techno king of Tesla in 2021.
