Movie star Jack Marks has died, his heartbroken wife announced.

The actor, best known for appearing in the horror film Friday the 13th Part 2, died after battling heart failure. He was 86.

In the film’s sequel, he played the famous Deputy Winslow and chased killer Jason Vorhees through the woods before being brutally murdered with a hammer by the main character.

His wife Linda wrote in a note shared by his co-star Bill Randolph: “I am sorry to report that my dear husband, Jack Marks, passed away last week after a long, slow recovery from heart failure.

“I know many of you knew him in passing because he loved entertaining other elevator passengers and exchanging jokes with security guards and neighbors on the way to wherever he wanted to go.

“He spent his last two years mostly at home enjoying his increasingly sedentary life and keeping in touch with close friends. He was cared for at home and briefly in Brooklyn by a hospice before he died peacefully at just under 87. We had been together for 39 years.”

She continued, “Jack had a distinguished acting career, both before and after we moved to Westbeth over twenty years ago. He acted primarily in Off-Broadway and regional theater. His greatest credits have been touring nationwide as a father in Briton Beach memoirs and Dying Heroically in the film Friday the 13th Part 2.

“He was most proud of his dual role in Athol Fugard’s Valley Song, which he performed on Martha’s Vineyard. He also enjoyed playing the old man Lazar Wolf in three different out-of-town productions of Fiddler on the Roof.

“When acting jobs became more difficult to obtain, he took up writing and produced hundreds of lively short stories and a few poems.”

Jack also appeared in the 1988 film Anna and the television series Ryan’s Hope.

His last on-screen appearance was on the TV show Tattinger’s in 1989.

Jack was wife Linda had been together for 39 years.
