Paul, who is hoping to fight again in August, recently included two-time Rugby World Cup winner Williams on his six-man hit list of opponents he could face next. Williams is undefeated in nine pro fights and defeated AFL star Barry Hall last month.
Williams also wants to fight again in August, to coincide with Paul’s projected return date. Paul has been heavily criticized for not fighting a “real life boxer” during his short-lived career, but Williams is a good match for the YouTube star as the pair are of similar height and weight.
“I might be looking at August getting back in the ring,” Williams said Nine and Stan Sports. ” Jake-Paul, his people have reached out to mine and they’re talking, so who knows. The main thing is that I’m very excited and very grateful to be back in the ring, with Stan, boxing.

“If he decides to do this fight, he would have pretty much underestimated me if he looked at old footage and old fights. I feel like I’ve increased tenfold in the last six months so it’s the confidence I have in my abilities.
“It would probably be a catchweight fight, I would probably have to go under 100kg. I know he’s sitting at around 95-96kg so that might work. He’s a strong athlete and I’m exactly the same, except for a bigger version. I’m just as good on my feet, if not better than him.
“I think that’s how it’s going to go, I could fight him in many ways. At the same time there are many other options for us too, it’s just a matter of deciphering what’s best for us.”
Former World Champion Andy Lee, Williams’ trainer, was the first to suggest a possible fight with Paul when he tweeted “Future fight Sonny Bill Williams vs Jake Paul”. Williams would face a major weight reduction to fight at Paul’s weight of 192lbs, with the 36-year-old weighing around 229lbs for his previous fights.
Williams began his boxing career in 2009 while still playing rugby. He won the WBA International heavyweight title in 2013, but took a six-year hiatus from the ring after winning his seventh professional fight in 2015. Williams made his comeback last year, winning a decision against Waikato Falefehi.
