James Cameron Explains Origins Behind Avatar’s Unobtanium

“Avatar” is a sci-fi story about capitalism and colonialism, all based on the search for a precious mineral, named unabtanium, needed as an energy source on The earth. When the humans found the mineral in 2154 on the planet Pandora, they did what the humans expected: raid the planet and try to get as much unibtanium as they could — ahem -– get.
In one Q&A after showing “Avatar”, star Zoe Saldana explains how she sees unibtanium not as MacGuffin but instead as the whole message of the film. The actor said:
“That’s what I love most about the movie: It’s the narrative of what’s been going on. We’re not just doing this with the earth, we’re going to move into other environments and other places. , we’ll do the same things there unless we learn ‘Avatar’ is a very good mirror of our history so far. It’s not a preaching point of view, it is to curb our inclinations.”
As for the name itself? Cameron admitted that he and his team were mocked for the mineral’s name. But the filmmaker gets the last laugh because the name has its roots in actual science, even if that’s not his primary concern.
