James Corden has vowed to make his final series as the host of The Late Late Show for people to remember after announcing he was relinquishing the role.

The actor, 43, has been behind the table on the state’s hit series for the past seven years but revealed Thursday that he will only be in the chair for another year.

And after telling fans that the gig had “changed my life,” he promised viewers he’d be “booming” and providing “lots of tears” in the remaining shows. his back.

Speaking during the show’s opening monologue, the Gavin & Stacey actor initially got fans excited when he heard he was renewing his contract.

He said: “I wanted to share some news of my own. Seven and a half years ago, I started this show.

“It changed my life. I love it, I love everyone who works here. I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved. It’s beyond my wildest dreams.

“So I’m pleased to announce today I’ve signed a new contract to continue.”

But the cheers of the crowd were quickly cut off by James confessing: “That’s really only half the story.

“The other half is sadder news. I’ve signed for another year of the show, and this will be my last.”

As the crowd booed his announcement, the visibly emotional James joked, “You wouldn’t dare.”

With tears in his eyes and a broken voice, he continued: “When I begin this journey, it will always be just that, it will be a journey, an adventure.

“I never made this my final destination, and I never wanted this show to be out of date. It’s welcome. I’ve always wanted to do it.

“I really think a year from now would be a good time to keep seeing what else is going on there. We’re all determined to make this the best year we’ve ever had. .”

He ended his speech by saying, “We’re going out with a bang… there’s going to be a lot of tears, a lot of tears,” as it was the hardest decision I’ve ever made. Must perform. I never took this for granted, ever.”

James initially took the elusive chair in 2014, taking over from Craig Ferguson.

The first edition of The Late Late Show starring Brit premiered the following year. By the time his reign ends, he will have been in the hot seat for eight and a half years.
