The veteran midfielder, 36 years old, has played alongside some of the greatest players of Premier League era in his decorated club career.
The Englishman also made 61 appearances for the Three Lions between 2009 and 2016, giving him the opportunity to play alongside many of the opponents he used to be rivals at club level.
Milner filled in six of his countrymen on his list of all-time teammates, but chose Brazil’s No. 1 Alisson, his Liverpool colleague, as goalkeeper in his all-star squad.
“Alisson had it all,” Milner said FourFourTwo. “Joining a new team and a new country is not easy, but he made us a better team.”
Two other Anfield stars received approval in defense with Trent Alexander-Arnold selected at right-back and Virgil van Dijk as one of the two centre-backs.
Milner chooses former Leeds teammate Jonathan Woodgate to partner Van Dijk and completes his defense by choosing Chelsea and England legend Ashley Cole – whom he describes as “the strongest footballer” – at left-back.
In midfield, he selected a legendary trio of England heroes Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard along with former Man City conductor David Silva.
Explaining his decision, Milner said Silva “could decide the game on his own” and described Gerrard as “the best all-round player I’ve ever played with”.
He also drew attention to Lampard’s scoring record in front of goal, with the Stamford Bridge favorite remaining Chelsea’s record goalscorer with 211 goals in all competitions.
Up front, Milner picked the last of four Liverpool players past or present with Robert Firmino selected to form a trident with Alan Shearer and Sergio Aguero.

Milner hailed the Brazilian as “the lowest-maintenance player I’ve ever known” and Shearer – with whom he played briefly at Newcastle – as someone who “lives to score”.
He also reflects on Aguero’s famously final spectacular win over Queens Park Rangers to claim the title in 2012 before simply labeling the Argentinian “great”.
Rounding out his options, Milner chose Reds manager Jurgen Klopp to manage his side and named three replacements including Liverpool striker Sadio Mane as well as Manchester United and the legend of England Rio Ferdinand and David Beckham.
James Milner XI’s All-Time Teammates: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Woodgate, Van Dijk, Cole; Lampard, Gerrard, Silva; Firmino, Shearer, Aguero.
