JAMIE Carragher has issued a warning that Albion boss Graham Potter should be “cautious” about moving to Chelsea.
Chelsea identified Potter as their main target after sacking Thomas Tuchel this morning.
Potter is due to meet Chelsea owner Ted Boahly today after Albion gave the London club permission to speak with him.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said he feared Potter could be sacked if he suffers a poor result streak at Chelsea.
Carragher told Sky Sports: “Chelsea are a very unscrupulous club and I’m not sure Potter is the right person.”
“Chelsea say they want to do things differently going forward, by having a coach instead of a manager or by doing things differently behind the scenes. But if I were Potter, I would find that very hard to believe.
“They just got rid of a manager after six season games. Of course it’s a big step up in his managerial career and Chelsea are still one of the top clubs.
“They are still world champions at the moment but fear for Potter that he will be in the same boat as every other Chelsea manager for the last 10 years.
“If he doesn’t get results right away, they’re going to get another new manager in 12 months. Maybe that will change with Potter, but if I were him, which they did with Tuchel, I would be very careful.
“However, sooner or later he will move away from Brighton because he has done an excellent job there, everyone loves the football their team plays.
“I don’t think he can turn down this opportunity but I wouldn’t fall for ‘Chelsea will do things differently going forward’ when that comes up in discussions.
“If I were a Chelsea fan and you asked me who I would like to see run my club, my choice would be Mauricio Pochettino.”
