Ahead of Mother’s Day on Sunday, comedian Janey Godley paid tribute to her late mother, 40 years after her death.
Janey, 61, was 21 when her mother’s body was discovered in the River Clyde in the 1980s.
The actress and author believes Annie Currie was murdered by a violent ex-boyfriend, but despite calls for an investigation, the man she suspects of the murder has never been charged by police in her mother’s death.
Janey took to Twitter on Friday morning and shared an old snap of her late mother with her 250,600 followers on the social media platform.
She captioned the pic: “40 years ago #MothersDay 1982 was the last time I saw my mum alive, days later she was murdered by her ex-boyfriend and thrown into the River Clyde – her name was Annie Currie – she won’t be forgotten #HappyMothersDay2022.”

Janey – who is currently battling ovarian cancer – responded to several fans and followers who sent their well wishes and condolences at the tribute.
One fan told the star: “Your poor mum and of course poor you!! I know it’s many years later, but I’m sorry for your loss. My own mother died in February. Grief is a bummer, isn’t it? “
This isn’t the first time Janey has spoken out about her late mother and the cause of her death.
Speaking on social media in the past, the Scottish comedian reflected on the small consolation she can find in having her mother’s body discovered so soon after her disappearance.
“When I watch documentaries about missing women whose bodies are found years later, I feel strangely blessed that my mother’s body was found in the River Clyde four days after she disappeared, despite the fact that the guy who killed her faced justice escaped, not me. I don’t have to wait years,” Janey mused online.
“Some women were never found and while I still miss Annie[my mother]I am reassured that for decades we have never wondered where she is, it is such a trauma for families.”
Janey’s social media tribute to her late mother comes just days after the star told her fans she’s accepted that she “might be facing death.”
The stand-up comedian announced her diagnosis of ovarian cancer in November 2021 and has been sharing updates ever since.
“I think I’ve had an epiphany, I’ve defied the fact that I have a life-threatening cancer,” Janey wrote on Facebook earlier this week.
“I’ve tried to ‘fight and be strong,’ rather than accepting that this whole year I may be facing death or surviving something over which I have no real control.”
She added: “I appreciate all of the amazing support and I believe just embracing the fact that this cancer is occurring will improve my mental health. I’m not alone, millions of people survive this disease and it’s not life with failure – maybe I don’t need to fight everything that happens to me and trust science?”
