Jay Leno discharged from hospital after being treated for severe burns

Jay Leno has been released from the hospital and is “looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving with the family” after being treated for severe burns in a recent petrol fire accident.

The former host of The Tonight Show is said to be grateful for the care he has received following the incident and is “very grateful for all the well wishes”.

The incident allegedly happened while Leno was working underneath a car in Burbank, California, last week.

The comedian suffered “deep second-degree” and possibly third-degree burns.

But Dr Peter Grossman said he was “satisfied with Jay’s progress” and “optimistic” that Leno would make a full recovery.

“Jay wanted to let everyone know how grateful he is for the care he has received and appreciates all the well wishes,” reads a statement from the Grossman Burn Center, which reads. with US media.

“He’s looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishing everyone a great holiday.”

The center also shared a photo of Leno with some hospital staff, showing visible burns on his face, neck and hands.

He previously said he was “all right”, but is recovering from the incident.

“I suffered severe burns from the gasoline fire,” he said in a statement shared with PA news agency.

“I’m fine. It just takes a week or two for me to get back on my feet.”

American presenter and comedian who took over NBC’s Tonight when longtime host Johnny Carson retired in 1992 and returned for another stint from 2010 to 2014, before handing the reins to the Current host Jimmy Fallon.

Leno, 72, turned her love of cars into a CNBC series, Jay Leno’s Garage, and is currently hosting a revival of the You Bet Your Life game show.
