Jean Smart’s “God-given” talent and generosity were recognized at the Walk of Fame ceremony

Jean Smart’s “God-given” talent and generosity were praised by her friends and TV co-stars when she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The award-winning actress was praised for her ability to make people the “best possible version” of themselves at Monday’s ceremony in Los Angeles.

Smart was honored by US actor Joe Mantegna and Hannah Einbinder, co-star of Hacks, and was joined by several of the series’ writers.

Einbinder said in her touching and humorous introductory speech that Smart’s comedic skills came “from the light of her soul”.

“What can I say about Jean Smart that wasn’t typed in capital letters by every lesbian with an internet connection,” she said.

“Well, there’s actually a lot…because whether you’re with her for just a day or a few years, you’re sure to take away something that she gave you.

“Everyone knows that she is an enchanting performer with a God-given gift of storytelling… What I want to focus on today is how beautiful she is as a person.”

Einbinder said Smart called her before filming began on Hacks Season 2 and “tried to calm my nerves.”

“The next day I met her in person and she radiated warmth, no small thing considering we were 10 feet apart and separated by a glass partition,” she said.

“Even under these conditions, I felt the presence of Jean Smart and turned a horrific situation into a place where I could be the best possible version of myself.”

She continued, “Jean is generous in every way a person can be generous … during the Christmas season she drove to each of our homes and personally delivered her gifts to us.”

“Jean cared so deeply for me and everyone she cares about, it’s just who she is.

“That’s why she’s so wonderful. Her humor comes from the light of her soul, not from the darkness.

“It doesn’t come from her ego, but from her desire to make others feel good. I can’t tell you how rare that is.

“I am struck by the rarity of someone so talented who is equally kind.

Smart recently received both the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and Critics Choice Awards (CCA) for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Hacks.

She has also won four Primetime Emmys for her performances on US sitcoms, including Frasier, Samantha Who? and hacks.

“If they gave stars to good character Jean, you’d have as many Emmys as Emmys, and folks, she has a lot of Emmys. She needed to reinforce her mantelpiece,” Einbinder said.

“And those are good Emmys for art, not Emmys for news or anything.”

In her own brief speech, Smart thanked the “fabulous” Hacks cast and production team, as well as their friends and family, including her late husband Richard Gilliland, who died last year at the age of 71.

“You’re all part of the reason I’m up here,” she said.

Smart’s star is 2,721. on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Dedicated to the TV category, it is located at 6150 Hollywood Boulevard in front of El Centro.
