Dancing Dirty: Jennifer Gray says she’s ‘terrified of lifting’
Jennifer Gray said Patrick Swayze was ‘in tears’ when he apologized to her for his behavior during their Dirty Dancing dance test.
The duo starred in the iconic romance Dirty Dancing in 1984, but despite being on-screen lovers, their relationship away from the camera was notoriously icy.
Jennifer and Patrick, who passed away in 2009, had previously starred together in the 1984 action film Red Dawn, and she says his attitude towards her on set while filming that movie led her to beg the producer to fire him from Dirty Dancing.
“Patrick played a prank on me and everyone,” she said of her experience on Red Dawn in an interview on The View.

“It’s like a manhood, and I can’t do it. I just said, “Please, this guy, that’s enough for him,” Jennifer said.
She said she was opposed to letting Patrick sign on to play the handsome dance teacher Johnny, even though he had trained and devoted himself to the role.
Jennifer said he found out she wanted him not to watch the movie, and he pulled her aside before checking their screens to apologize for upsetting her.

“He dragged me down the hall and said to me, ‘I love you, I love you, and I’m so sorry. And I know you don’t want me to make the movie,” she explained.
“And he was in tears. And I’m in tears – not for the same reason. I was like, ‘Oh, this guy’s working for me,’ she quips.
“And he said, ‘We can kill it – we can kill it if we do this,'” Jennifer added.

She was eventually won by Patrick after she realized they had a great chemistry and said there was “no competition” over who her leader would be.
“We went in there and he hugged me and I was like, ‘Oh, boy. I’m done,” she said of the screen test.

“There is no competition. He’s like the comfy chair I’ve dreamed of all my life,” quipped Jennifer.
The 62-year-old actress will return as Baby in the Dirty Dancing sequel.
Patrick, who once battled pancreatic cancer, sadly passed away at the age of 57 in 2009.
