Jennifer Lopez confessed that she almost left showbiz because of the unique beauty standards of that time.
The Get Right singer is known for her youthful looks and endless curves but that hasn’t always been celebrated in Hollywood.
There were a few moments in her decades-long career where the intense criticism she endured nearly caused her to flee the limelight.
JLo revealed: “There were so many times when I felt this way, I thought I was going to quit my job.
“I have to really find out who I am. And believe in that and not believe in anything else.”
People mocked her curvy figure, including her chubby figure at the beginning of her career.
At that time, there was less variety when it came to people of color as well as body shape.

The Latina star added in the Netflix documentary Halftime: “When I started working, the beauty ideal was to be very thin, blonde, tall, without a lot of curves.
“I grew up around curvy women so there’s nothing for me to be ashamed of. It’s hard, when you think people think you’re a joke – like a punch.
“But it affects everything in a way that I never intended.”
Even her fiance Ben Affleck noticed the criticism she would receive about her body.
Speaking in the new documentary, he said: “I said to her once, ‘Doesn’t this bother you?’
“And she said, ‘I’m Latina, I’m a woman, I expect this’.”
Jennifer’s career first began in 1989 and entered the acting field in 1993. The star hit the jackpot with her role as Selena Quintanilla-Perez in Selena (1997).
She then released her debut studio album On the 6 in 1999.

The release of her documentary comes after she was awarded the MTV Movie and TV Award last week.
She even shed a few tears as she accepted the award and gave a cute thank you to future Ben.
After wiping away her tears, she ended her speech by jokingly: “Ben and everyone stay home, wait for me to have dinner – 7 o’clock I’ll be home!”
She was presented the gong by Vanessa Hudgens, who then stepped aside as the audience watched a remake of J-Lo’s classic movies over the years.
As the clip ended, Jenny took the time to thank “all the amazing people I’ve been fortunate to work with”.
