When asked if ITV would keep Clarkson as host of the quiz show, a position he inherited from Chris Tarrant in 2018, Mr. Lygo said: “Yes, we are now.”
Asked if Clarkson represented ITV’s values, Mr. Lygo replied: “No, of course not in that case.”
On Monday, Clarkson responded to the controversy, writing on Twitter: “Oh my gosh. I’d rather set foot in it.
“In a column I wrote about Meghan, I clumsy about a Game of Thrones scene that made a lot of people feel bad.
“I’m appalled that I’ve caused so much damage and I’ll be more careful in the future.”
The work was removed from The Sun’s website on Monday at Clarkson’s request.
