Conservative MP Jeremy Hunt’s surname was mispronounced as a swear word by Sky News presenter Sophy Ridge on live TV.

A clip of the incident soon went viral after Ridge’s unfortunate slip, according to the Daily Star.

Discussing Hunt as a possible successor to Prime Minister Boris Johnson in light of Monday’s vote of confidence, she mistakenly used an expletive.

Ridge said there were “two significant figures” before mispronouncing Jeremy Hunt, saying “because he’s a potential leadership candidate”.

Ridge didn’t immediately catch her slip as she continued without reference to the swearing on live television.

Twitter users were quick to discuss the on-air slip. Scott Ryan wrote: “Oh GOD Sky News just said ‘Jeremy [****]’ and the moderator didn’t even notice.”

Someone else wrote “I can’t fault the subtitles” and shared a still from the show with “[****]’ fully subtitled below.

Another person said: “I was watching and thought she said it but wasn’t sure. She really emphasized it too!”

Referring to Cabinet Secretary Nadine Dorries, who slammed Hunt for saying he would “vote for change,” a fourth Twitter user joked, “Nadine thinks so, but Sophy actually said it!”

It’s not the first time Hunt has been called an offensive term during a live broadcast.

A YouTube collection video shows eight other examples of repeat offenders, including Sky News, as well as BBC’s Question Time, BBC News and Radio 4.

BBC presenter Jim Naughtie is believed to have been the first person to make a mistake during a radio segment, back in 2010.
