Jeremy Kyle Show mentor Graham Stanier defended the show after a C4 documentary went viral.

The document’s statements include a former member of the show’s staff saying Kyle was “extremely nasty”.

But Mr. Stanier says the program has helped thousands of people with counseling, family mediation and anger management sessions.

“Many people benefit from aftercare… there are also many who benefit and don’t appear on the show,” he said.

“In some cases, people whose needs are often unheard and ignored are recognized and heard by the care team.”

He also said the program challenged homophobia, transphobia and racism, and provided a platform for survivors of domestic abuse and other trauma.

ITV canceled the show in 2019 following the death of Steve Dymond, whose failure in a polygraph test for it ended his participation.

Shortly before the cancellation, Mr. Stanier testified before a committee of the Ministry of Culture, Media and Sport that is investigating the reality TV.

When asked about Kyle’s “confrontational” style, he said: “I take responsibility for myself and my behavior. I cannot be held responsible for the conduct of the presenter”.

A letter to the committee from ITV executive Carolyn McCall revealed that during the filming of the previous season, Stanier advised the producers to drop the 49 guests to protect their interests.

Kyle, 56, said he would only comment after the inquest into Mr Dymond’s death, which will begin this month.
