Jesse Lingard on loan moved to Newcastle on the verge of collapse with Man Utd asking for too expensive fees

JESSE LINGARD’s hopes of following Anthony Martial out the door of Manchester United’s exit have been met with a new set of difficulties.

Confident British runner-up loan to Newcastle was on the card following talks with interim boss Ralf Rangnick on Tuesday.

However, it later emerged that there was still a big difference between the two clubs in terms of the fees involved in the provisional deal.

It is believed United want a loan fee as well as a bonus if Eddie Howe’s struggles remain in the Premier League.

And Newcastle are threatening not to leave the table with Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes now in their sights.

Lingard – currently resting in Dubai – has decided to move to St James’ Park for the remainder of the season.

With his contract at Old Trafford set to expire in the summer, the 29-year-old wants to keep his options for his long-term future intact.

But the United hierarchy are looking to get some money back on him now as they will lose him for nothing in the summer.

He must now hope the two clubs can agree a compromise before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Meanwhile, Martial, who signed for United in 2015 in a deal worth £57.6m, hopes to stay at Sevilla on a long-term basis.

The loan agreement is only valid until June and there is no option to sign him after that point.

But he is hoping to score goals to help Julen Lopetegui’s men win titles and give himself every chance to stay.

United insist the Spanish club must pay him £200,000 a week for the rest of the season.

The Reds’ next regular manager will also have the final say on Martial’s long-term future as his contract runs until 2024.

Rangnick must temporarily decide what to do with goalkeepers Dean Henderson and Donny van de Beek, with Crystal Palace eyeing a move on loan to the midfielder, before the window closes on Monday.
