Jim Carrey has opened up about Will Smith’s outburst at the Oscars, which saw him lash out and meet host Chris Rock.
The Dumb and Dumber actor said the audience at the Oscars was “spineless” for giving Will Smith a standing ovation for his Best Actor win just minutes after he slapped Chris Rock.
Jim has also said he was “disgusted” by what he saw on stage, adding that he feels Will should have been arrested for his behavior.
Will Smith slammed Chris Rock after making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith being addicted to her battle with alopecia.
Jim appeared on CBS’ morning show today and spoke about the shocking incident that shook the world.
He said: “I was sick, I was sick from the standing ovation.
“I felt like Hollywood en masse is just spineless, and it really felt like that was a really clear indication that we’re not the cool club anymore.”
He then said that Will “should have been arrested,” after which host Gayle King pointed out that Chris Rock declined to press charges.
Jim then added: “He didn’t want the hassle.”
Before explaining what he would have done, he said: “I would have announced this morning that I’m suing Will for $200 million because that video is going to be there forever, it’s going to be everywhere. This insult will last for a very long time.
“If you want to yell out from the audience and show disapproval or disapproval or say something on Twitter, you don’t have the right to go on stage and slap someone in the face for saying words.”
Jim then said that the incident “came out of nowhere because there’s something in Will that’s frustrating.”
He added that he wished him well and had nothing against him because he had done great things, adding: “But it wasn’t a good moment.”

He then spoke about how it muffled a special night, explaining, “A lot of people worked really hard to get to this place. And to have their moment in the sun, to get their award for the really hard work they’ve put in, it’s no easy feat to get through all the things that go through when you’re nominated for an Oscar.
“It was such a selfish moment that overshadowed the whole thing.”
