Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys said JOBSEEKERS payments would be linked to pre-unemployment earnings in the benefits system reform plans.
The minister said how the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) model could be the template for the new system.
The PUP is an emergency government program that provides monetary assistance to people facing unemployment due to Covid-19 Disease.
And now, the new jobseeker payment plan can be modeled on a PUP scheme with the added element that the recipients directly receive their benefits.
Ms Humphreys said: “What we have at the moment with the PUP are five different bands and I think we can learn from that.
“Obviously, we’re still in the middle of this pandemic but that’s what I want to put forward and I want to look at the proposals.
“I’ve asked my officials to look into that and make suggestions for salary-related benefits.”
The social welfare department is now considering reintroducing the requirement that people go to their local post office to claim job seeker payments.
