Joe Aribo is fulfilling his Premier League ambitions with his move to Southampton

Joe Aribo says his move from Rangers to Southampton on a four-year deal fulfilled a lifelong ambition to play in the Premier League.

Ribo, who scored 26 goals in 149 games for Rangers after joining from Charlton in 2019, had previously taken to social media to thank the Glasgow giants for “an amazing journey as part of this special club”.

The 25-year-old midfielder told the Southampton website: “It’s an amazing club with a lot of history here and it’s a good plan for what’s to come next.

“I am really looking forward to the trip. The Premier League is the best league in the world.

“I’ve been watching it since I was a little boy, it’s always been a goal for me to play here and show what I can do on this stage.

“It’s an incredible feeling, a dream come true.

“This is where I’ve wanted to be since I grew up playing as a kid, so to say I’m here now is really exciting.”

London-born Aribo has 20 caps for Nigeria and enjoyed Premiership and Scottish Cup success while in Scotland.

He also scored in Rangers’ Europa League final defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt in May.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “Joe is a player with many qualities in his game and we are delighted to welcome him to the squad in time for the trip to Austria.

“We believe Joe can bring energy and creativity to our side.

“Being comfortable in so many different positions is very helpful for a manager and shows that you have a high level of footballing intelligence, with the ability to absorb new information quickly.

“He has played many games at a very high level in his career and his performances in the Europa League show he has the quality to play in the Premier League.

“It’s a big goal for him and he’s hungry to show everyone he can do it.” Joe Aribo is fulfilling his Premier League ambitions with his move to Southampton
