One lucky bidder will soon be given the opportunity to give peas a shot in an old fridge freezer formerly owned by John Lennon – as it is due to be auctioned off later this week.

The kitchen appliance is said to have been installed at Beatles member Kenwood’s mansion in Weybridge, Surrey, in 1968 – and it’s still working more than five decades later.

It has been described by auctioneers as selling it as the Rolls-Royce of fridges ahead of tomorrow’s auction alongside other memorabilia.

The fridge freezer is expected to fetch up to £2,000 tomorrow when it comes under the hammer at Omega Auctions in Newton-le-Willows in Merseyside.

Regarding the device, the auctioneers have described it as “one of a kind” and stated that it is the “most collectible home appliance” they have ever put up for sale.

They commented, “Originally purchased by John Lennon while they were living in their Kenwood home, this incredible and one-of-a-kind item was the Rolls Royce of refrigerators.”

It should have a freezer compartment on top and a large refrigerator compartment below. The unit includes the original metal drawers, ice cube trays and even instructions.

The device should still be functional

The auctioneers said: “This is quite possibly the most collectible home appliance we have ever put up for sale. As well as being of excellent provenance, it is also quite a stylish fridge.”

The seller is understood to have bought the fridge from a later owner of the Kenwood property – which reportedly had six bedrooms – for just £80.

It’s not the only Beatles memorabilia up for sale at the forthcoming Merseyside auction – it’s just one of 242 lots linked to the popular band.

Lennon – who was murdered in 1980 – is believed to have lived in Kenwood in the 1960s while married to his first wife, the late Cynthia Powell – from whom he divorced in 1968.

He is said to have written some of the biggest Beatles songs on the mansion’s estate, which was valued at more than £13million when it was appraised in 2012.
