John Mayer let the Office use one of his songs, but he had one condition

During the podcast, Jenna Fischer said that they wanted to use the song, and that BJ Novak (who plays Ryan and is also a writer/director/producer) is a friend of Mayer and asked him about it. At first, Mayer said no. Fischer explains:

“He said, ‘I don’t think so.’ And he actually wrote about this on his blog, and he said, ‘Now, I’m not sorry for my work, but it’s safe to say I’m not required to use “Wonderland” for strong athletes competitions and documentaries about aircraft carriers I am often asked so people can be stupid about it So at first I turned down their requests But after thinking about it about it, I decided to implement it. But with one stipulation.”

So what are the rules? Fischer said Mayer wanted a Dundie. If you don’t know what that is, see the picture above. It is an award that Michael Scott gives annually from Dunder Mifflin Scranton for outstanding work. Of course, everyone gets one so no one feels left out. Mayer received his Dundie from Novak, who was gifted to him for being “The Tallest Musical Guy.”
